As a computer technician one of the most bothersome issues to encounter is a machine with multiple anti-malware applications installed on it. This can cause extreme performance issues as well as even prevent the machine from booting into Windows.

Nirsoft’s SecuritySoftView is a simple utility that lets you see what Security applications are registered within Windows Security Center. It currently lists Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, and Firewall applications.

It is important to note that not all security applications register themselves with the Security Center. For example, applications that often times won’t show as registered are those from smaller companies or those that are not yet recognized as official security applications. If you don’t see an application show in the SecuritySoftView list but you see it installed on the machine, it is a good idea to be skeptical regarding its legitimacy.
